Media Evil Thoughts
Several times both online and in magazines in the last couple of years I have seen this kind of article aimed at record companies that goes something like "sign some talent that would excite us" Well It's out there in every major city not thousands but certainly a few. When someone gets a spot on a show like "Pop Idol" It's hey look here comes the labels! Give up? OK put everything on a silver platter be able to afford everything and pay everybody and spell it all out correctly then some of the large labels might raise an eyebrow. In other words if they see the support like television for millions they will think OK maybe now I can sell this. Still don't get it? If you want to see your favorite local artist make it bigger support them with free advertising. Just a one off story will probably not be enough, although better than nothing {hopefully}. Britney Spears is a good example of an artist that gets enough support from the media. Saying something in a computer magazine like musicians can have an entire studio in a piece of recording software is not supporting. And also If a musician works for a newspaper, a magazine or any other form of adverting media {like I once did} and they do not support them they in my opinion are basically saying this person deserves no better. Of course I can't work for that kind of company. The last venue I attempted to gig at did not seem to approve of my advertising and instead thought I should hire a publicist {they told me a bit late} but I'm in no position to go crashing the Queens party and it is indeed a let down to have to rely on reviews. Reviewers called Johnny English old fashion instead of high quality art {Rowan Atkinson at probably the top of his form} and called Micheal Moore's 911 comedy and well that says it all for the reviewers.
